SUN 10/5/08 COBRAS V. NEWTON STORM
Today's game was a battle between two teams at the top of the standings. Neither team had suffered a lose yet and neither team was ready to except one! It was a physical battle that we would love to have back! The Cobras came out strong and controlled the game in it's early stages and I thought it would be our day!! We didn't capitalize on our opportunities early and the game slowly slipped away from us, losing 0-2. Our defense did a good job against a bigger stronger offense holding them to only two goals (they had a 5 goal average).
Good Job Defense!
We have some things we need to work on this week in getting prepared for our game against Los Valientes.
let's practice hard this week Cobras and get things back on track!!
WORK HARD COBRAS!!
SUN 9/28/08 COBRAS V. DERBY HEAT
Finally!! It has been five weeks since our last game. We have been practicing hard and waiting patiently. Now it's our turn!! Game three of the season would be against the Derby Heat. The Heat were coming off of a big win from the day before and it would be a good first game back for us. The game started a little sluggish and the Cobras gave up an early goal but rebounded quickly and never looked back!
Aaron C. started things off with a place kick from 25 yards out. The ball went in the far upper 90 as the defense stood there in amazement!! Matthew would be next. He recieved a through pass from Jacob and broke through the middle of their defense placing the ball in the far corner and putting the Cobras on top 2-1. The Cobras' next three goals came off the HOT BOOT of Ben!! Conner, Jacob and John all had assists in Ben's Hat Trick! Great teamwork Cobras!! Ian would score our sixth goal from a drop pass from Ben. Ian put the ball just inside the left post giving the keeper no chance!! John had the ball working up the middle when he found Conner with a cross and Conner tucked the ball in the corner of the goal and the Cobras went up 7-1. The Cobras' eighth goal was a great team effort. Jacob had the ball in the midfield and played it out wide to Rowan, who then brought it around one defender and towards the goal. Rowan then crossed a bullet that cut through the defense and found Ian on the back side who finished it perfectly inside the left post. The defense didn't know what hit them and the Cobras went up 8-1.
The Cobras played a great game controlling the midfield and maintaining possession of the ball. Congratulations has to go out to our Defense for stepping up and playing a fantastic game. Ryan and Aaron both made fantastic saves, while Rowan, Christian & Kody played a dominating defensive game allowing our offense to do their thing!! Cobras had great support from our subs: Jesse, Jack, Aaron B. & Andrew. Great job guys!!
Great game Cobras! We will work hard this week and get ready for the Newton Storm.
PRACTICE HARD THIS WEEK COBRAS!!!
SUN 8/24/08 COBRAS V. FURY
This was the second game of our opening weekend double header! We were playing a team we had never faced before, the Wichita Fury. The Fury was a big, physical team that played a hard fought game.
Congratulations to Ian Page for scoring his first goal as a Cobra!! The ball came up the middle and passed outside left. Ian received the pass and beat one defender before beating the keeper in the upper left corner! Great shot!! At halftime the Cobras were down 1-2 and the coaches were not happy with the team's first half efforts. The second half, the rain started and the Cobras came alive!! Our midfielders stayed back in their positions and opened up our offensive opportunities. While gaining more control of the midfield we lessened the Fury's possession time greatly. John scored twice from balls dropped back from the forwards, placing both shot high and away from the keeper. Great job John!! Aaron scored his second goal of the weekend with a fantastic shot from outside coming in just under the cross bar, the keeper never had a chance!! Matthew scored his first goal of the season by following a shot in and then picking the keeper's pocket!! Way to follow that shot Matthew!! The Fury were able to score a goal late and the final was 5-3. Congratulations Cobras on your first win of the season and a great weekend of soccer!! Way to go Cobras!!
Brendon had a fabulous weekend by helping to close the door defensively Saturday and stepping up to help the Cobras control the middle on Sunday. Brendon has been on the Cobras Soccer Team for four years and has been an exciting player to watch. He has grown into a great soccer player. Farewell Brendon, the Cobras will miss you greatly!! Good Luck in Canada!!
SAT 8/23/08 COBRAS V. CROSSFIRE
The Cobras started their season today against one of our rivals the ICT Crossfire. At first things were a little sloppy on both sides of the ball!! But we slowly started putting things together. We started creating opportunities offensively and working together as a team. Congratulations to Aaron Christian for scoring the first Cobra goal of the season!! The ball was brought down the left side of the field and crossed inside were Aaron had set position to turn and beat the keeper on the near post. The Crossfire would score on a break away in the second half to even things up and the game would end as a 1 to 1 tie. The Cobras put together more offense than the Crossfire did. We just had problems controlling the midfield and finishing our opportunities! The Defense had a great game, only allowing one shot on goal. Way to go Defense!! We know now what we need to work on and we get another chance at the Crossfire later in the season!! GO COBRAS!!
